Shaw’s “Evergreen” nylon recycling facility represents one-third of the industry’s entire carpet recycling capabilities. EcoWorx® products all over the world are collected and recycled at no cost through Shaw’s Environmental Guarantee. Shaw’s manufacturing operations are ISO 9000 and 14000 accredited and they are committed to achieve a waste to landfill reduction by 90 percent by 2011.'
Pile material
Eco Solution Q® premium branded nylon 6 holds the internationally recognised MBDC “Cradle to Cradle” Silver certification confirming that it is designed to be recycled into more Eco Solution Q®, again and again. It contains a minimum of 25% recycled content, utilizing an average of 10,000 tonnes of recycled content annually. Requiring 18% less energy to make than the alternative nylon 6, 6 yarns, Eco Solution Q® is designed to give exceptional performance deriving from its high tensile strength. The yarn is solution dyed which is the most environmentally responsible method which also maintains optimum appearance over the life of the product.
Backing
The backing material, EcoWorx®, is also 100% recyclable (c2c Silver certified) and is completely PVC-free. Containing around 40% recycled materials, it is light in weight (40% less than traditional PVC back tiles) and exceptionally strong. EcoWorx® backed products come with a lifetime commercial warranty and an environmental guarantee for reclamation and recycling. The product meets the rigorous CRI Green Label Plus standard for indoor air quality.
Recycling
Shaw’s solution dyed nylon 6 carpet pile material contains post industrial and post consumer recovered and reprocessed yarns. Shaw’s Ecoworx backing contains post consumer and post industrial recovered materials. A unique, global post consumer collection network exists and each tile has the collection number stamped upon it. Nylon pile is reprocessed at Shaw’s “Evergreen Nylon Recycling” plant in the USA where nylon is broken down, purified and sent for reprocessing as caprolactam-the material required to make fibre. The Ecoworx backing is ground down and blended with new backing compound to form new carpet tile backing. These processes can be repeated without limit thus assuring the constant reuse of original materials and the avoidance of landfill or incineration for Shaw Contract Group’s carpet tile range. A chemical process of recycling is used for EcoWorx broadloom products.'
