A focus on performance can reduce energy usage without great expense
POEs are, if carried out well, one of the most cost effective actions a design team, contractor or client could carry out if they wanted to reduce the environmental impact of a building. Not least because the lessons learnt can be carried through to future buildings.
Beware of the limited view of sustainability
While feedback has a crucial part to play in closing the current performance gap, we need to be aware that POEs do encompass a somewhat limited view of sustainability (albeit a very important part!) and it is important that we do not lose sight of other considerations such as embodied carbon, an increasingly important consideration the more efficient buildings become, and other wider environmental, social and political issues.
POEs are an extremely cost effective way of reducing the environmental impact of a building.
