Day centre, Plas Y Mor, Burry Port
Winner of RSAW Welsh Housing Design Awards 2004
The new assisted living and day-care centre at Burry Port for Gwalia Housing Society and Carmarthenshire County Council provides a sustainable complex of 38 flats with community and day care facilities. The development incorporates a large foyer / glazed garden to benefit from passive solar gains producing preheated air for ventilation and heat recovery. The fabric retains the potential for future PV installations and heating/hot water is provided by a combination of biomass boilers and solar panels. The construction incorporates high performance timber frame with recycled cellulose insulation and clad with FSC certified low maintenance timber cladding. The design of the glass garden is linked visually to the landscaped entrance area and the resident's garden.
