Housing at Great Bow Yard, Langport

Completed in 2006, Great Bow Yard in Langport, Somerset is a development of 12 homes comprising a mix of houses and flats.

The development features 2 terraces arranged around a landscaped area adjoining a small river. Construction is a mixture of brick, timber frame and structural insulated panels (SIPs). The brickwork uses reclaimed bricks and lime mortar. Timber is FSC and PEFC certified with the cedar cladding sourced from South Wales. 50% of the insulation is cellulose sandwiched within the SIPs. PVC is restricted to use in SVPs and rainwater tank connections. Plywood is used in lieu of MDF and natural paints have been used throughout.

The north wing of the development includes the use of sunspaces to optimise the solar gain available by enabling pre-heated ventilation and providing buffer space and draught lobbies.

‘Renewables’ content is provided by both solar thermal panels and PV panels.
